Juan comes from Colombian descent but was originally born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in between Colombia, Miami, Spain, and New York. At the age of 16, Juan was introduced to salsa music on the park playground, where his interest in salsa dancing began. From then on he began going out with his friends to local salsa clubs. Juan joined the United States Marine Corps at 18 where he was sent to serve two years in Okinawa, Japan. To his surprise salsa was very big within the Japanese community, which led him to continue with his dancing. He was transferred to San Diego in September of 1999, where his love for salsa dancing took off to another level.

In October of 2002 he was asked to join Majesty In Motion Dance Company, the largest and fastest growing salsa dance company in San Diego. In 2003 he decided to begin teaching salsa classes. Since then he's taught and performed at numerous venues and private events in various cities around the United States, such as San Diego, Boston, Phoenix, San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Fe, Palm Springs, Laughlin, El Paso, Austin & Houston.  He’s been a guest performer, for seven consecutive times, at the World Salsa Congress in Los Angeles. Juan has also traveled Internationaly to teach and perform at the island Republic of Cyprus was also chosen to represent the United States during the 50^th Anniversary of the Colombian Festival in South America.

Juan was a former director and professional dancer of Majesty in Motion, where he taught, ran drills and choreographed routines for the different level teams that comprised the company. Through Salsa dancing Juan meet his wonderful, amazing dance partner and current wife Erica. With over ten years of dance experience, Juan Hernandez has created a unique style that many dancers in the salsa scene consider as smooth. This contributes to the large following of students he’s got scattered about the various nights and places that he teaches at.
